All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and Off-road Vehicles manufacturer Polaris India aims at achieving 15 percent market share in India in the Super Luxury Bikes segment by the end of 2016. Polaris India is a subsidiary of Polaris Industries, incorporated in the US. Currently, Polaris India enjoys a market share of 10 percent in the Super bikes segment.
Just last week, Polaris India launched their Indian Scout Sixty, powered by the 983 cc, sixty cubic inch engine, priced at Rs. 11.99 lakh. The Scout Sixty is the seventh model of the Polaris after its six model line-up of the Indian Roadmaster, Chieftain, Springfield, Chief Vintage, Chief Classic, Chief Dark Horse and the Indian Scout.
The launch of the Scout Sixty happened today at Ahmedabad, where Pankaj Dubey, Managing Director, Polaris India, said that he expected Polaris India to sell more of super bikes than off-roaders and ATVs with the launch of the new model. So, Polaris India has been trying to tilt the scales to sell more of super bike models, which it hopes will take place through the launch of this latest model.
Currently, about 60 percent of Polaris’s sales come from the sale of ATVs and Off-road vehicles, while 40 percent comes from the sale of super luxury bikes. Polaris India aims to achieve 60 percent super luxury bike sales with 40 percent ATV and off-road vehicle sales. Over the next five years, the company will try to take a significant share of the super luxury sports bike segment.
The expansion will be in terms of dealerships too with more showrooms added in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh. Two more dealership showrooms will also be freshly opened in Cochin and Kolkata as well.
For the ATVs and off-roaders are sold within the niche sectors of defence, security, police and buyers interested in such vehicles. The Gujarat Police is among the first to use ATVs in the Rann of Kutch area.
Polaris India currently only imports all their vehicles via the CBU (Completely Built-Up Units) route, except for only one of their ATVs, which gets assembled at Faridabad to be priced lower at Rs. 2.9 lakh. Even at their warehousing facility, Polaris will only assemble one or two more ATVs, only if the demand looks up. And only upon increase in sales and demand for ATVs, Off-roaders and Super Luxury Bikes, Polaris will begin to assemble CKDs (Completely Knocked Down) of all its vehicles.
