New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the birth anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on Tuesday, celebrated as 'Parakram Diwas' or the Day of Valour. PM Modi actively participated in the 'Parakram Diwas' celebrations at Red Fort, where he inspected a bust of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at an exhibition organized for the occasion, reported news agency ANI.
Addressing the gathering at Red Fort, PM Modi remarked, "This Red Fort, which has been a witness to the brave revolutionaries of Azad Hind Fauj, is shining bright once again. Just yesterday, the entire world witnessed a historic milestone of India's cultural consciousness."
Prime Minister Modi said, "It was Netaji who presented the identity of India as the 'Mother of Democracy' to the world. When some people in the world were skeptical about democracy in India, Netaji reminded them of India's democratic past. Netaji said democracy is a human institution and it is being practiced in several parts of India."
"When India is taking pride in its identity as the 'Mother of Democracy', it strengthens Netaji's views. He knew that subjugation is not just about being ruled, it is also of views and conduct which is why he tried to make the Youth cognisant of this," he added.
He also mentioned 'Bharat Parv' in his speech, stating, "Today on Parakram Divas, Bharat Parv has also started from the Red Fort. In the next nine days, the diversity of the country will be showcased through Republic Day tableaux and cultural programs in Bharat Parv," as quoted by ANI.
PM Modi added, "The Bharat Parv is a reflection of the ideals of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. This Parv is to adopt 'local for vocal,' to promote tourism, respect diversity, and to take 'Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat' to new heights. I request all to connect with this Parv and celebrate the country's diversity."
PM Modi's 'Nepotism' Jibe At Opposition
Taking a dig at the opposition, PM Modi remarked on dynastic politics in India's democracy post-independence, stating, "Nepotism became dominant in India's democracy after independence, and due to this, it could not develop at the speed it should have."
"Our women and youth power can free our country's politics from the ills of corruption and dynasticism," he remarked.
He also highlighted the self-confidence of the BJP government, stating, "We have the capability of providing solutions to the world's challenges; this self-confidence can be seen in India's youth," reported PTI.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi laid a floral tribute at Samvidhan Sadan (old Parliament) paying homage to Netaji.
Highlighting Netaji's significant contribution to India's freedom struggle, PM Modi extended greetings on 'Parakram Diwas', "Greetings to the people of India on Parakram Diwas. Today, on his Jayanti, we honour the life and courage of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. His unwavering dedication to our nation's freedom continues to inspire".
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) previously released a statement stating that Bharat Parv would be held between January 23 and 31, showcasing Republic Day tableaux constituted with the efforts of 26 Union ministries. The program aims to highlight citizen-centric initiatives, vocalize local and diverse tourist attractions, among other activities. The celebration this year aims to seamlessly weave together historical reflections and vibrant cultural expressions, delving into the profound legacy of Netaji and the Azad Hind Fauj.
