He said: “I have tendered my resignation to the Congress President taking moral responsibility of the party’s debacle in the recent election.”
The Congress which once ruled the capital territory, failed to win any seat in two consecutive assembly elections.
The Delhi election results have thrown open an internal fight between the party, with party leaders blaming others for the drubbing.

Chacko had drawn flak from several senior party leaders earlier when he blamed late Congress leader Sheila Dikshit who was the CM of the capital territory for three terms, for the slipping away of the power to Aam Aadmi Party. The Congress's entire vote bank is now with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he said in an interview with ANI.
Milind Deora Congress’ Mumbai leader slammed Chacko on the remark and tweeted: “Unfortunate to see her being blamed after her death. She dedicated her life to Congress and the people of Delhi."
“I did not say that we lost in Sheila Ji's time, it is being wrongly interpreted. We lost in 2013, even in 2014, 2015 & 2017. I know who are the people behind all this issue, there is a deliberate campaign against me, I have seen this earlier also,” Chacko clarified later.
Party’s Delhi unit chief Subhash Chopra also resigned as expected even as knives were out for the resignation of the party's Delhi affairs in-charge PC Chacko, who has been blamed for the dismal electoral show. Though Chopra did not get sufficient time to gear up the Congress for the electoral battle, it's a tradition with the party that the state unit owns up the defeat.
