Patna: The big blow has hit Bihar politics as Pashupati Kumar Paras has been unanimously elected as the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) parliamentary leader in the Lok Sabha. Pashupati Kumar Paras is currently representing the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat in Bihar and is the uncle of party president Chirag Paswan.

The development has come a day after five LJP MPs met Lok Speaker Om Birla and handed over a letter to him regarding the removal of party chief Chirag Paswan from the position of Lok Sabha Parliamentary party leader.

In his statement Paras said that the step has been taken to save the party and Chirag can continue to be a part of it.

"There are six MPs in our party. It was the desire of five MPs to save our party. So, I have not broken the party. I have saved it. Chirag Paswan is my nephew as well as the party's national president. I have no objection against him," Paras.

Paras, who is currently representing the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat in Bihar, reportedly said that  his group will continue to be part of the National democratic Alliance (NDA).

Quashing away rumours of joining Janata Dal United (JDU), Paras said, "This is 100 per cent wrong. LJP is our party, the organisation is strong in Bihar. I was with NDA and I will continue to be a part of the alliance."

Chirag Paswan, the son of late party supremo Ram Vilas Paswan, had been having a tumultuous time managing the party ever since his father’s death one year ago. LJP too was already battling the setback following its weighty defeat in the Bihar legislative assembly elections last year.
