Economics Nobel 2022: The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel for the year 2022 will be announced in a few hours from now Monday. The announcement will be made at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm.


“We'll soon be announcing the recipient of the 2022 prize in economic sciences. Stay tuned to discover who it will be!” the official Twitter feed of the Nobel Prize posted Monday. 






Past Economics Nobel Winners


In 2021, the Nobel Prize in economics went jointly to David Card from the University of California, Berkeley, Joshua Angrist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Guido Imbens from Stanford University.


Canadian-born David Card was awarded half of the prize for his “empirical contributions to labour economics”. The other half of the prize went to Joshua Angrist and Dutch-born Guido Imbens “for their methodological contributions to the analysis of causal relationships”.


Indians have won the Nobel Prize in economics twice in the past.


In 2019, couple and colleagues Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee were awarded the prize, which they shared with another colleague Michael Kremer.


Economics Amartya Sen got the Economics Nobel in 1998 “for his contributions to welfare economics”. 


Nomination to prize can be made by invitation only, according to Nobel rules, which also mandate that information about the nominations cannot be revealed until 50 years later.
