Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away on Monday at the age of 82. The Samajwadi Party supremo was admitted to Medanta's intensive care unit on October 2. He had been under treatment at the hospital since August 22.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while offering condolences to Mulayam Singh's family, he said, "I had many interactions with Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji when we served as Chief Ministers of our respective states. The close association continued and I always looked forward to hearing his views. His demise pains me. Condolences to his family and lakhs of supporters. Om Shanti."
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh offered condolences to Mulayam Singh's family.

In a tweet, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said, "My heartfelt condolences on demise of founder-patron of Samajwadi Party, former central minister & former CM of UP, Sh Mulayam Singh Yadav ji. As a veteran politician his contribution was immense. May his family find strength to bear this loss. May the departed soul rest in peace."

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has expressed deep shock and grief over the death of Mulayam Singh. The CM said that Mulayam Singh Yadav, a secularist, came into politics with the inspiration of great leaders like famous socialist leaders Ram Manohar Lohia and famous freedom fighters Raj Narayan.
