New Delhi: BMW is planning to have a global launch premiere of its latest (seventh-generation) 5-Seriesat the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. Earlier, it was rumoured that the car will debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in September, but as the X2’s premier was already scheduled for the Paris Show, using two of the world's greatest auto shows to introduce different vehicles felt more apt. The 2017 Detroit Auto Show will be open from January 9, 2017 for media and from January 14, 2017 to public. The show will conclude on January 22, 2017.

This -- the seventh-generation 5-Series will be unveiled on the Internet in coming weeks and the first press drive will take place after the show in 2017. The 5-Series sedan is going through its final round of check-up and has been spotted multiple times being tested on the roads. The car looks bigger and more imposing than before. Despite being bigger, the midsize sedan is expected to be lighter, courtesy the use of carbon and the new Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform. This platform will also be used in the upcoming 3, 5, 6 and 7-Series sedans. Courtesy its platform, this car has been dubbed as the G30 5-Series.

This car could very well be a smaller iteration of the 7-Series. In terms of design, the car will be distinctive, but in terms of technology, the G30 5-Series will be similar to its elder sibling. The car will feature the iDrive infotainment unit  which has gesture control technology and also laser headlights. The G30 5-Series will also get a more advanced Autopilot feature. We can’t wait to see the final production version, but the sad part is that its entry in India will surely take some time.
