The GLE’s dashboard gets a widescreen display, albeit not a flush-fitting unit like the one seen on the E-Class and S-Class

Mercedes-Benz is set to introduce the fourth-gen GLE SUV very soon and the carmaker has been testing it rigorously of late. The latest example that’s been spied is a RHD (right-hand drive) version and the interior images reveal more details than any previous spy shots.

First up is the large and wide display that houses the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. However, the display doesn’t sit flush with the rest of the dashboard, like it does on the the E-Class and the S-Class. Instead, it’s more on the lines of the A-Class, which features a floating-type unit on the dashboard and behind the steering wheel. While the latest images only show two AC vents at the centre of the the dashboard, previous images have already revealed that there will be four vents, unlike the current-gen GLE which features one on each side of the infotainment system.

The RHD version seen here gets a regular circular steering wheel, while the LHD version that was previously spied had a flat-bottom unit. The steering wheel, however, gets an array of controls with the option of touch-sensitive panels, like the ones seen on the C-Class facelift. Interested to know more about the C-Class facelift? The centre tunnel of the upcoming GLE gets two grab handles. Although these were visible in the previous spy images, they weren’t as clear as they are in the latest images.

Previous images of the GLE revealed much of its exterior design. It now gets fewer character lines and looks a lot cleaner than the outgoing model. Check out the older images here. We expect the upcoming GLE to share its petrol and diesel engines with the E-Class, which gets a 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine as well as a 3.0-litre V6 diesel unit. All engines are paired with Merc’s 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE is expected to make its international debut later this year. Expect the carmaker to launch in India in 2019. The current-gen GLE is priced from Rs 66.48 lakh to Rs 77.05 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The GLE takes on likes of the BMW X5, Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, Porsche Macan, Land Rover Discovery, Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jaguar F-Pace.
