Draft NEP
The National Education Policy was adopted in 1986 and the last time it was modified was in 1992. In May 2019, the Modi government presented the draft NEP which looks at providing quality education to every child in the age group of 3-18 by 2030.
According to the document the ‘The draft NEP is based on the foundational pillars access, affordability, equity, quality, and accountability.’ The new policy also looks at changing the changing world environment and the need to keep students updated with it.
'Young learners today belong to a generation that is born and raised in technology-rich environments. They will use technologies that haven’t been invented so far and enter jobs that don’t exist at present. Globalisation and the demands of a knowledge economy and a knowledge society call for emphasis on the need for acquisition of new skills by learners on a regular basis'
Unlike the linear progress in the existing education policy, the NEP proposes an integrated and flexible system that has multiple entry and exit points for students especially starting from secondary education level to graduation and postgraduation.
