New Delhi: Under the Agnipath scheme, 20 percent of the candidates in the first batch in the recruitment of Agniveers in the Navy will be women, Navy officials said on Tuesday. They will be sent to different parts and branches of the Navy. Under the scheme, women are also being recruited into the Navy. "Twenty per cent of the naval Agniveers will be women subject to their meeting required criteria," said a senior Navy official.

The scheme, announced on June 14, seeks to enroll young people between the age section of 17-and-half years to 21 for just four years with a provision to hold 25% of them for 15 additional years.

For 2022, the upper age limit has reached 23 years.

Under the plan, the three administrations are set to enlist 46,000 workforces this year and the number will increase in the coming years.

The Navy has proactively reported that the application window would be accessible from July 15 to 30 and examination and physical fitness tests would be held in mid-October.

It said the first batch of recruits will join the preparation program at INS Chilka in Odisha by November 21.

There were violent protests for quite a long time in many pieces of the country after the new military enlistment model was divulged. The Supreme Court is probably going to hear one week from now the requests testing the 'Agnipath' scheme.
