New Delhi: A Muslim woman from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, has alleged that her husband and his family evicted her from her house as she voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the recently concluded assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

ABP News journalist Sanjay Tripathi has shared a video on Twitter, in which the woman, named Uzma Ansari, can be heard talking to reporters. She alleged that she was threatened with Triple Talaq.

Uzma, who is a resident of Ejajnagar, Gauntia, alleged that her husband's maternal uncle, Tyeb, had also threatened her with Triple Talaq. She said that Tyeb had earlier asked her to vote for the Samajwadi Party (SP), according to reports.

Uzma was allegedly thrown out of her house on March 11. It has been reported that Baradari Police have registered a case regarding this incident and have started an investigation.

Uzma, who was living in a rented house with her husband, told reporters that she voted for the BJP because the Narendra Modi government has legally banned Triple Talaq.

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights in Marriage) Act, 2019, declared the instant divorce granted by procurement of talaq three times as void and illegal, according to the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs. It provides for imprisonment for a term up to three years and fine to the husband who practised instant Triple Talaq.

Uzma told reporters that she belongs to a poor household, and has four sisters, and that her father is a labourer. She appreciated the BJP government for distributing groceries and other essential commodities twice a month. Uzma said that she had a love marriage, and has been married for a year. According to reports, she is married to Taslim Ansari of Ejajnagar Gauntia.

Recalling the day on which the incident took place, Uzma said Tyeb was talking about the fact that Yogi Adityanath would again lead the government in Uttar Pradesh. Uzma told reporters that she replied to Tyeb that she too had voted in favour of Yogi ji.

Tyeb allegedly threatened Uzma with Triple Talaq, and challenged her to seek the government's help to save herself from divorce.

Uzma told reporters that she was living a comfortable life with her husband, and that they do not live with her in-laws. She also alleged that her husband is not supporting her in this situation, and has sided with his uncle.

She also alleged that it is her husband who evicted her from home. He allegedly challenged her to save herself from Triple Talaq.

Uzma, however, clarified that her husband has not yet practised instant Triple Talaq.

Uzma told reporters that she said to her husband's family she would raise her voice against this matter, due to which her family allegedly threatened her that her siblings would be harmed. After registering the case, the police have started an investigation into the matter, according to reports.
