New Delhi: The Vice Chancellor of Harisingh Gour University in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar ordered a probe after a right wing organisation. Hindu Jagran Manch, submitted a clipping of a Hijab clad woman offering namaz inside a classroom.
“We've notified a committee to probe the matter & directed all students that since this is a central university, all religious acts are to be done in personal premises/religious places,” said Neelima Singh VC, Dr Harisingh Gour Sagar University, reported news agency ANI.
A five-member committee has been formed to look into the matter, said University registrar Santosh Sahgaura. “The committee will submit a report within three days and further action will be taken based on it,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.
Members of the right wing outfit, Hindu Jagran Manch alleged that the student has also been attending classes wearing hijab, while there is no dress code prescribed by the university, reported PTI.
"Such religious activities should not be allowed in educational institutions. She was wearing a hijab for a long time but she was spotted offering namaz inside the class on Friday afternoon. This is objectionable as educational institutions are a place for every religion. A complaint in this regard has been submitted to the vice-chancellor and the registrar," said Umesh Saraf, Sagar Unit President of Hindu Jagran Manch, reported PTI.
This comes just days after the Karnataka High Court pronounced its verdict in the Karnataka Hijab case saying that wearing hijab is not an “essential practice” in Islam which is being challenged in the High Court.
