New Delhi: Following its recent announcement to introduce petrol variants across its range, Mercedes-Benz has just launched the GLE400 4MATIC SUV in India. The model was previously available in the GLE250d and GLE350d guises, which get four and six cylinder diesel engines respectively.

At a price of Rs 74.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) the petrol GLE is more expensive than its diesel counterparts as it is a direct import.



Powering the SUV is a 3.0-litre V6 engine that makes 333PS of power at 5,250-6,000rpm and 480Nm of torque between 1,600-4,000rpm. Transmission to all four wheels is through a 7-speed automatic gearbox.

The feature list includes a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, an 8-inch display for the infotainment system which gets COMAND Online with telematics along with Mercedes-BenzApps, navigation, telephone, audio, video, internet and Wi-Fi hotspot. Audio playback is through a 14-speaker Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system. Other features include full LED headlamps, an electric sunroof and logo projection lamps on the wing mirrors.

You also get the ‘dynamic select’ control system which alters the behaviour of the engine, transmission, steering and suspension, based on the driving scenario, with five selectable modes available i.e. ‘Comfort’, ‘Sport’, ‘Slippery’, ‘Individual’ and ‘Off-road’. Thanks to the air suspension, the ground clearance can be raised to a maximum of 232mm and the system automatically lowers the suspension by 15mm at high speeds.

Safety and driver assistance features include 6 airbags, crosswind assist, attention assist, active parking assist and brake assist.

With the GLE400 4MATIC’s launch, the GLE SUV family in India will now comprise of 4 models - the GLE250d, GLE350d, GLE400 and the GLE 450 AMG coupe.
