Likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine to rival the likes of the Audi S3

Mercedes-Benz has already revealed the A-Class LWB (long wheelbase) sedan for the Chinese market and, in our earlier conversations with the German carmaker’s Indian arm, it was revealed that this version of the sedan will be brought to India too. Mercedes-AMG boss, Tobias Moers, had earlier announced that the A-Class sedan and hatchback will receive an A35 AMG variant with over 300PS on tap. Now, a full-blown AMG version of the sedan has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring, possibly to hone its driving dynamics.

As far as the looks are concerned, don’t expect the AMG version of the A-Class to look significantly different than the regular version. That said, it will get a sportier set of bumpers to distinguish it from regular variants. On the inside, expect it to pack Merc’s latest MBUX infotainment system, an AI-based system which was first introduced in the A-Class hatchback back in 2017.

At the heart of the Mercedes-Benz A35 AMG is likely to be a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine with an electrically-assisted turbocharger and mild-hybrid technology. There is reportedly a bonkers A45 AMG version that produces more than 400PS of power in the pipeline too.

The A-Class sedan is expected to be launched in 2019. Initially, it is likely to be imported here via the  CBU (completely built unit) route. So, expect the entry-level sedan to be priced just under the C-Class. Likewise, the AMG version of the A-Class should also undercut the C43 AMG, which is priced at Rs 77.12 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), when it comes to India.
