The Future-S concept that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo is on its way to the passenger vehicle market in the form of an entry-level crossover. Maruti has decided to call it the S-Presso and it will be launched through the Arena dealership channel of Maruti Suzuki.

The S-Presso was previously spied while undergoing testing and the stance of the car was similar to the tall and upright stance of the Future-S. We also expect it to get a semi-circular instrument cluster positioned in the centre of the dashboard and a touchscreen infotainment system like the WagonR. It will get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors as standard.

It is likely to be positioned in between the Alto K10 and WagonR in Maruti’s lineup and is expected to get a 1.0-litre petrol engine, mated to a manual transmission. An AMT is also expected in some variants.

Maruti is planning to launch the S-Presso in the last quarter of 2019 and we expect it to be priced under Rs 4 lakh. Just for comparison, the price of the Alto K10 starts at Rs 3.66 lakh while Renault’s Kwid, with a 1.0-litre engine, is priced at Rs 4.20 lakh (all prices ex-showroom New Delhi). The Kwid will also receive a facelift in 2019.
