After announcing cross-badging plans for India in 2018, Toyota and Suzuki have now revealed details of cars being rebadged for select international markets as well. In India, Maruti Suzuki will supply the Ciaz and Ertiga to Toyota while initially, the plan was limited only to the Baleno and Vitara Brezza.

Toyota and Suzuki are still far away from revealing a timeline for the introduction of these cars but the Toyota-badged Ertiga is likely to be launched ahead of the Ciaz. We expect the next-gen Ciaz based on the Suzuki’s Heartect platform to launch in 2020 and that could be rebadged for India. The current Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is due for a generation update in 2020 as it made its debut in 2014.

What will be interesting to see is how the Yaris with the Ciaz co-exist in Toyota’s portfolio. Toyota could either discontinue the Yaris or just replace the Etios sedan and offer one of the two sedans as a more premium offering in its lineup.

For the Ertiga, it is expected to retain its current mechanicals as it received an update in 2018 with a new Heartect platform. Being a new product, Toyota is likely to rebadge it before the Ciaz and launch it in India. The Ertiga-based MPV will still be positioned under the Innova Crysta in Toyota’s portfolio.
