Even though the entire segment witnessed a 6 per cent drop in demand in August 2019, the Dzire stills holds the largest market share at 62 per cent.
Despite the automobile industry witnessing a slowdown, there were a couple of cars which managed to achieve their usual sales numbers in August 2019. They include the likes of the Maruti Dzire and the Ford Aspire.
Takeaways
Maruti Dzire: Maruti was able to ship more than 13,200 units of the Dzire, making it the most popular sub-4m sedan. It holds a market share of nearly 63 per cent and is one of the two cars which managed to see a positive growth when comparing its month-on-month MoM figures.
Honda Amaze: Even after witnessing a fall of 22 per cent in terms of month-on-month growth, the Amaze is still the second most-sought after sedan of the segment and commands a market share of nearly 21.5 per cent.
Hyundai Xcent: Hyundai managed to sell a little over 1,300 units of the Xcent, which indicates a decline of nearly 8 per cent when comparing the MoM numbers. A quick look at the Xcent’s average sales figures over the last six months reveals a downfall in the Hyundai sedan’s popularity.
Tata Tigor: With its sales figures unable to cross the 1,000 mark, the Tigor now holds a market share of only 3.94 per cent this year, which is a drop of 1.15 per cent when compared to last year.
Volkswagen Ameo: With a 23 per cent drop in its MoM figures, the Ameo is the second most-affected car. However, its market share grew by 0.84 per cent and it now stands at 1.73 per cent.
Tata Zest: The Zest is the worst-affected car of the segment as it saw a decline of almost 30.5 per cent in terms of month-on-month growth. Tata could manage to ship just 294 units of this sub-compact sedan in August.
Ford Aspire: Ford could sell only 521 units of the Aspire. However, it managed to retain its market share of over 2 per cent. It is the only car along with the Dzire to witness a positive growth in its MoM figures.
Total: The sub-4m sedan segment saw a decline of over 6 per cent in August 2019.
