Takeaways
Alto’s sales pick up after a slow March: Compared to its unusually high numbers, the month of March was rather slow for the Alto. However, India’s most popular budget hatchback was back to its best in April, clocking a sales number of almost 23,000 units. The increase can be attributed to Maruti launching the Alto’s facelift on 23 April 2019.
Kwid consistent with its numbers: The Kwid’s curse is that it competes with the Alto and thus, its consistent month-on-month sales is always overshadowed by the tremendous success of the Maruti hatchback. A look at its sales for March and April against its average monthly sales over the last six months shows how consistent the Kwid has actually been. A facelift for the Renault hatchback is expected to be launched later this year.
redi-GO’s numbers plummet: Datsun was selling more than 1000 units of the redi-GO before that number dipped below that mark in April 2019. Due to this decrease in numbers, it registered a negative month-on-month growth of 28 per cent.
Entry-level hatchback segment on the rise: In an age when consumers are slowly moving towards more feature-laden cars, the entry-level hatchback space still continues to grow. Compared to March, the segment grew by more than 20 per cent in April.
