Diego Maradona Health Update: Football legend Diego Maradona has been admitted to a hospital in Argentina. He has been taken to the Ipensa clinic in La Plata which is about an hour from Buenos Aires. Goal.com quoted one of the local media outlets has reported that the 60-year-old's condition is not serious and is not related to Covid-19 as he had tested negative for the coronavirus in recent days.

His personal doctor has said that the World Cup winner "needed to stay hydrated, get some blood tests and studies", reported ESPN.

Dr. Leopoldo Luque told ESPN F90 in Argentina that there was "not an emergency situation here" and that Maradona can "leave if he wants."

Maradona is the coach of Gimnasia y Esgrima. His last public appearance was last Friday when he was presented with a commemorative plaque ahead of his side's game with Patronato. He had last week turned 60.

Maradona was admitted for internal bleeding in stomach in 2019

Maradona was admitted to hospital in January last year for internal bleeding in the stomach. He had fallen sick at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

In 2004, he was hospitalized with severe heart and respiratory problems because of his long battle with drug addiction. Maradona has undergone two gastric bypass operations to control his weight and also taken treatment for alcohol abuse.

Maradona is one of the greatest football players of all time. He has played in four FIFA World Cups and was captain of the Argentine team that won the 1986 tournament.

The soccer legend's performance in Argentina's quarter-final match against England immortalised him in his country's culture. He scored twice in his side's 2-1 win in that match. The first goal was scored with his hand and his explanation in the immediate aftermath that he had made contact with the ball "a little with his head, and a little with the hand of God", led to the goal being known as "The Hand of God", reported IANS.
