The Land Rover Discovery has received a new engine option for its lineup by way of the 2.0-litre Ingenium series diesel engine. It will be offered on all four variants - S, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury - while being more affordable than before with a starting price of RS 75.18 lakh (ex-showroom).

This particular SD4 Ingenium diesel engine is the first to feature series sequential turbo technology, says Land Rover, and it is not available with any other model yet. The 2.0-litre engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and is tuned to produce 240PS of power and 500Nm of peak thrust, all of which is sent to all four wheels. Land Rover will continue to offer the more powerful 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine as well which produces 258PS and 600Nm and has a starting price of Rs 88.78 lakh.

Until now, the entry price of the Discovery was Rs 76.94 lakh and was offered with the 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. This new, smaller diesel engine makes it more affordable than before while still being feature rich and capable off road thanks to its Terrain Response 2 system and robust vehicle design. Land Rover may introduce this high-powered 2.0-litre Ingenium engine in other models as well.

Currently, the Land Rover Discovery is priced between Rs 75.18 lakh to Rs 1.08 crore (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). It competes with rivals like the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE and the Volvo XC90 as well.
