Korean carmaker Kia Motors has begun series production of the Seltos at its manufacturing plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The plant has been active since January but the Seltos’ made earlier were pre-production prototypes.

Kia has already received 23,000 bookings for the SUV and the Seltos is slated to go on sale starting August 22. As consumer interest in the Seltos is high, Kia will be looking to build up an inventory to tackle the initial demand for the SUV. Deliveries of the Seltos will begin on the day of the launch.

The Seltos features up to 90 percent localisation and that will help Kia in pricing it aggressively. We expect Kia to price the SUV between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh.

Kia is offering the Seltos with two petrol and one diesel engine. Four transmission options will also be on offer, out of which three are automatic.

Once launched in India, the Kia Seltos will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur. Some of its variants will also go up against the recently launched MG Hector and Tata Harrier.
