Chennai: In a first in India, a trans couple gave birth to a healthy baby at a Government Hospital in Kozhikode on Wednesday. The couple, however, decided to keep the gender of the baby private.
The trans man Zahad who was carrying the baby gave birth to the baby through C-section on Wednesday.
Talking to ANI, Ziya, Zahad's partner said, "This is the happiest day of my life. I got several messages that hurt me. The birth of our child is our reply to them. I thank all those who supported us."
"Both the baby and Zahad, her partner who delivered the child are doing well," he said.
She also said that they had the baby through a C-section at Government Medical College Hospital around 9.30 am since Zahad's sugar level was high.
After the birth, Health Minister Veena George congratulated the trans couple. She also told that she wishes to meet them in person.
The Minister also instructed the Institute of Maternal and Child Health in Kozhikode Medical College to remain vigilant. She told them to treat the patients free of cost.
Later, Ziya took to social media to announce the birth of the baby and to share her joy. Following this, members of trans community and queer people also congratulated the couple.
