On the day of fast women wake up just before sunrise to eat and drink before the fast begins. This is also called as Sargi, which is prepared by the fasting woman’s mother-in-law.
On the day of puja, women indulge in sangeet and mehendi ceremonies.
Dressed up in traditional attires and full ornaments, women break their fast after sighting of the moon. It is customary to view moon or its reflection in a vessel filled with water, through a sieve, or through the cloth of a dupatta. Water is offered (arka) to the moon to seek its blessings.
The husband of the fasting woman then offers water to her and by taking the first sip, the fast of the day is broken.
