Chennai: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party president, Kamal Haasan wrote to the Tamil Nadu government to ensure girl students' safety in schools in a view of recent sexual harassment case from Chennai came into the picture.

The actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan urged the Tamil Nadu government to take severe action against the teacher allegedly involved in the sexual harassment case and take all required measures to ensure the safety of girl students in schools on his Twitter post. He expressed disappointment over the PSBB management's inability to take action when the issue was reported to them saying that it has greatly broken the trust that people had in educational institutions.

“Following this, allegations in a few other schools have also come to light. The State government must form an investigation team and investigate these allegations on a war footing,” he wrote on Twitter.

The MNM leader added that parents should supervise children when they are taking online classes and they must listen to their children when they raise issues.

Haasan also pointed out that there is an attempt being made to turn this into a 'caste issue' for political gains. “If we don’t focus on the crime and the perpetrator of the crime, there is a chance that it would become advantageous to those who committed the crime. No matter which caste the perpetrator belongs to, they must be punished. As an informed society, we must ensure that justice is done,” he said.

Kamal Haasan is said to be a long-time close friend of PSBB founder Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy's son Y.Gee Mahendra and his voice on this issue has been appreciated by his Makkal Needhi Maiam followers.
