New Delhi: Jaguar Land Rover on Monday launched the petrol variant of the Land Rover Discovery Sport, owing to the rising demand for petrol-powered cars in the Indian market. The starting price of this petrol-powered premium SUV will be Rs. 56.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Vocal about the shifting trends and the changing legal requirements of the country, JLR reveals that launching the petrol variant of the Discovery Sport this early was not part of its production plans. The Tata-owned British automobile manufacturer also clarified that besides the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) ban on diesel engines over 2.0-liter, changing customer preferences towards petrol engines has forced them to unveil the petrol variant early.

Jaguar Land Rover finds it necessary to adapt to the legal requirements of any country to be “relevant to the market” and also to adapt to the changing customer demands. “We will do our best to address the demand,” says Rohit Suri, President, JLR India, on customers drifting towards petrol-powered cars recently.

The price between petrol and diesel has been narrowing in India, following which buyers of cars have been expressing more of a preference towards petrol variants of cars. So, JLR India will soon ramp up production of petrol-powered cars to adapt to the rising customer demands for petrol cars and the new legal requirements on all its models.

The HSE trim of the Jaguar Land Rover Discovery Sport will avail the petrol variant, beside the diesel engine on offer. This petrol variant will be powered by a 2.0-liter petrol engine, producing a powerful 237 bhp, and a peak torque of 340 Nm, while the existing diesel engine is capable of producing 148 bhp and 400 Nm of torque.
