Baramulla: At least two over-ground workers of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) have been arrested in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and arms and ammunition recovered from them, police said.


Police added the arrests were carried out on the basis of specific intelligence inputs that two Lashkar workers are instigating the youth in Kreeri area of Baramulla and motivating them to pick up arms.

Acting on the tip off, the police personnel raided the area and arrested the two Lashkar over-ground workers, who have been identified as Bashir Ahmed Bhat and Waseem Ahmed Mir.


During interrogation, both accepted their involvement with the terror outfit besides admitting to motivating the youth to join the militant ranks with the aim of increasing militant activities in the area.


Some grenades besides other arms and ammunition, which had been procured to be handed to the new recruits for carrying out subversive activities, were also recovered by the police.

Besides, two Chinese grenades and 20 Live AK 47 rounds were also recovered from their possession and more recoveries are expected in next few days.


A case has been registered against the arrested duo under relevant laws.
