New Delhi: Two soldiers were killed and one injured in an alleged gunfight on Friday morning in Jammu and Kashmir’s Surankote area of Poonch district, official sources said. According to the defense sources quoted by a local news agency, the firing took place when Imran Ahmed, a resident of Kalakote and Imtiyaz Ahmed of Mendhar opened fire on each other over some personal matter after a heated argument. The bullets also hit other soldiers identified as Makhan Singh and Khalil Ahmed, leaving them critically injured.
The injured have been airlifted to Military Hospital in Udhampur where one among them has reportedly succumbed to his injuries.
Earlier, in November 2021, as many as four CRPF personnel lost their lives and three were left injured after a jawan opened fire at his colleagues in Chhattisgarh's Sukma. According to a PTI report, the jawan shot them at a camp of the paramilitary force in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district.
The incident occurred at around 3.45 am in the camp of CRPF's 50th battalion in Lingampalli village of the district, around 400 km from the state capital Raipur, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.

"In a case of fratricide, the jawan, identified as Reetesh Ranjan, opened fire on fellow soldiers in C/50 Lingalapalli under PS Maraiguda in early hours at about 3:45 am", according to an official statement.
As per preliminary information, a jawan opened fire at his colleagues with his service weapon, an AK-47 rifle, the official said.
