Thiruvananthapuram :The fear of Zika virus is increasing in Kerala. Now five new cases have been reported, after which the total number of people infected with Zika virus in the state has gone up to 28. State Health Minister Veena George said, two people in Anayara, Kerala, one each in Kunnukuzhi-Pattam-East Fort have been found infected with Zika virus. He urged people to be alert as the number of people infected with Zika virus has increased in the state.


Zika affected area identified, steps are being taken to free from mosquitoes.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George said on Wednesday that the area most affected by Zika virus infection has been identified within a three-kilometre radius of Anayara here and steps are being taken to free from mosquitoes so that they can not spread to other places.


The minister said in a release that in view of Zika infection in the capital, a control room has been set up in the district medical office. All the cases of Zika infection reported so far have come from this city. The decision to set up a control room and fogging to get free from mosquitoes was taken in a special meeting convened by the Health Minister on Wednesday, he said.


Meanwhile, amid the outbreak of Zika virus in Mangaluru, Karnataka's coastal district, authorities have issued notices to all gram panchayats to take precautionary measures. As more cases of Zika virus infection are being reported from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, Mangaluru District Panchayat CEO Dr Kumar has issued a notice. The notice emphasizes on the fact that since more people from Kerala are visiting various places in Mangaluru for education, health care and other purposes. Therefore preventive measures should be taken immediately. There is also an emphasis on maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in this area.
