Wrestlers' Protest: Delhi Police Says No Concrete Evidence To Arrest Brij Bhushan, Final Report In 15 Days

Delhi police has said that it has not found concrete evidence proving women wrestlers' sexual harassment complaints against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh.

The Delhi Police on Wednesday said it has not found sufficient evidence on the basis of which they can arrest Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, reported PTI. The police said they have not found concrete evidence to prove women wrestlers' allegations of sexual harassment against Singh. They also said that the sections of POCSO in the FIR have a punishment of less than seven years and hence immediate arrest cannot be made by them. 

According to PTI, a senior officer said that the police will submit a report in court within 15 days. The development comes a day after wrestlers reached Haridwar to immerse their medals in Ganga but were later stopped by the Khap leaders.

"During the investigation so far, the police have not found sufficient evidence to arrest the WFI chief. There is also no supportive evidence to prove their (wrestlers) claim. A report will be submitted in court within 15 days which could be in the form of a charge sheet or final report," the officer was quoted as saying by PTI.

According to some Delhi police sources, the officials have recorded statements of many witnesses and received many documents. The sources have said that neither he is influencing the witness nor he is destroying the evidence so arresting him is not possible in this case at all.  

The wrestlers, who had been protesting at Jantar Mantar since April 23 seeking the arrest of Singh, were removed from the site by the Delhi Police on Sunday after they tried to march to the new Parliament building that was inaugurated the same day.

Meanwhile, terming the intense protest by wrestlers an emotional drama, Wrestling Federation chief Brij Bhushan, who is facing cases of sexual harassments, has said there is no evidence against him and he is ready to be hanged if any allegation is proved against him. "If a single allegation against me is proven, I will hang myself. If you (wrestlers) have any evidence, present it to the Court and I am ready to accept any punishment," he said.

"Even today I stand by the same thing. It's been four months, they want to hang me. Since the government is not going to hang me, they are going to throw their medals in the Ganga. I will not be hanged by throwing medals in the Ganga. If you have evidence then go and give it to the police, give it to the court and if the court hangs me then I will be hanged. What's happening is just an emotional drama."
