New Delhi: On World Lion Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the people engaged in the conservation of wildlife and said the country will be happy to know that India's lion population has steadily increased in the last few years.


In a tweet, Prime Minister said: "Lions are majestic and courageous. India is proud to be home to the Asiatic Lion. On World Lion Day, I convey my greetings to all those passionate about lion conservation. It would make you happy that the last few years have seen a steady increase in India's lion population."



World Lion Day is celebrated every year on August 10. This day aims to increase awareness about preventing and protecting lions. In another tweet, the Prime Minister said that when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he had the opportunity to work towards ensuring safe and secure habitats for the Gir Lions.


"A number of initiatives were taken which involved local communities and global best practices to ensure habitats are safe and tourism also gets a boost," PM added.


Yogi Greets On World Lion Day


Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also greeted on World Lion Day. He said: "Heartiest greetings and best wishes to all animal lovers and lion conservation enthusiasts on World Lion Day.  Let us all make World Lion Day meaningful and successful by conceptualising the conservation of the lion species, a symbol of courage, strength, speed, and strength.
