The entire North India is currently in the grip of cold wave. The bone-chilling cold has deeply affected the normal life.
On Sunday, dense fog prevailed in many areas including the national capital, due to which visibility became zero. The temperature of Delhi has dipped to 9 degrees Celsius on January 5, with icy conditions.
The dense fog has led to decrease in the visibility in many parts of the north India. Visibility less than 50 m were reported in most parts of Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh and Delhi, and in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Northwest Rajasthan, Northwest Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
Zero visibility was witnessed in Srinagar, Delhi's Palam and Safdarjung, Hisar and Ambala in Haryana, Lucknow, Agra and Kanpur In UP, and in Bihar's Purnea and Bhagalpur.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold day to severe cold day conditions prevailed in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, and in the isolated pockets of south Punjab and south Haryana.
The IMD has said that Jammu & Kashmir heavy will witness rainfall/snowfall likely on January 5, while Himachal Pradesh on January 5 and 6. Uttarakhand will see light to moderate rainfall/snowfall on January 6.
The severe fog has led to disruption in flight operations, with many getting delayed.
Several trains are also running late due to the fog.
Issuing an orange alert, the weather department has warned that there will be no relief from this bone-chilling cold at the moment. As per the experts, this outbreak of cold may continue for at least 20 days.
