New Delhi: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, in an interview said that his government is ready to talk with militants in order to reach an “amicable agreement.”
“India is a democratic country, if anybody wants to say something come and talk but we will not succumb. Come to talk otherwise you will have to face the consequence. We will not succumb to anti-India, anti-national feelings. I will make Manipur a model state, that’s my dream,” he said in an interview to News18.
The statement has come after an attack by militants killed seven including a Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles, his wife, and an 8-year-old son. The attack, one of the deadliest, took place in the Churachandpur district of Manipur on Saturday.
The commanding officer of 46 Assam Rifles, Colonel Viplav Tripathi had gone to a forward camp and was returning when the ambush took place.
“Five soldiers including Colonel Viplav Tripathi, Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles, have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The family of the Commanding Officer - wife and child - also lost their lives. DG and all ranks of Assam Rifles offer condolences to the brave soldiers and families,” the Assam rifles had said in a statement.
“Strongly condemn the cowardly attack on a convoy of 46 AR which has reportedly killed personnel including the CO & his family at CCpur. The State forces & Paramilitary are already on their job to track down the militants. The perpetrators will be brought to justice,” Singh had tweeted on the day of the attack.
Manipur-based militant group People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) had taken responsibility for the attack. It is the first time that civilians were killed in a remote region.
