Chandigarh: Hours after Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was arrested after a case was registered against her at the Hargaon police station in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur, former Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday threatened to march towards Lakhimpur Kheri with other party workers.
The activists of Punjab Congress will walk towards Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh if Priyanka Gandhi is not released and the Union Minister's son accused of murder not arrested, Sidhu warned.
"If, by tomorrow, the Union Minister's son behind the brutal murder of farmers is not arrested, and our leader @PriyankaGandhi being unlawfully arrested, fighting for farmers is not released, the Punjab Congress will march towards Lakhimpur Kheri!" Sidhu tweeted.
In another tweet, Sidhu said: "When in doubt walk the path of truth, never compromise on moral values!! 'Moral Authority' thy name is @priyankagandhi."
Sidhu's demand to arrest the accused in the case was a reference to Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni, who was accused by farmers of allegedly trampling four protesters in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday.
Both minister and his son have denied the charges levelled against them.
Recently, while speaking to ANI, Ajay Mishra once again reiterated that neither he nor his son was present at the spot and he has evidence of the same. "We are ready to face any investigating agency. Culprits, who have planned this incident won't be spared," the minister said.
Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including disobeying prohibitory orders and abutment. The Congress leader has been kept at PAC guest house which has been notified as a temporary jail.
Earlier in the day, Priyanka tweeted a viral video of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and asked why has the person behind the killing of four farmers have not been arrested while she has been under detention for 28 hours without an FIR.
Congress has alleged that drones were being used to monitor the movement of Priyanka at PAC guest house. Hundreds of party workers have been sitting outside the PAC guest house in Sitapur, waiting for their leader's release.
