In the morning, Rahul was at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's daylong fast demanding special status for his state and also coaxed the crowds to chant ‘Çhowdikar Chor Hai’.
The Congress President repeated the act while stopping the 25km roadshow of Priyanka in between. “I have made Priyanka and Jyotiraditya the general secretaries of eastern and western UP to end the injustice that's been taking place here for years. Not just Lok Sabha, these two are also here with the objective to form the state government,” Gandhi said.
The Gandhi siblings along with other Congress leaders were at an open top bus and had to bend down at various points to avoid overhanging electrical wires. The Congress workers showered rose petals and threw marigold garlands at her, celebrating the much-awaited political debut. During the journey supporters began taking vantage points to get a glimpse of the Gandhis and click photographs.
Since morning Congress workers had been corralling crowds and its workers for the cavalcade. They were seen distributing food packets, tea and water to locals and passersby. Also in the moving exhibition, patriotic songs were played on loudspeakers, elevating the mood of supporters. Rahul Gandhi is stridently demanding PM Modi's prosecution in the alleged Rafale scam. The procession also saw cutouts of Rafale jets being held by party workers.
Some posters showed Priyanka Gandhi as Goddess Durga sitting on a lion. Another highlighted her resemblance with her grandmother and former India PM Indira Gandhi. Congress workers were seen wearing T-shirts with photographs of Priyanaka Gandhi. Members of "Priyanka Sena," a little-known organisation of her supporters, were also seen during the roadshow.
