New Delhi: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar who visited the worst flood-hit neighbourhoods in Patna, on Tuesday , after almost 100 hours of the crisis,  was faced with angry residents who were hit by the floods.

Upon being questioned by the media on the incessant rain and floods which have created a havoc in his state, Kumar said that floods happen in many parts of the country and around the world.

"Is water in some parts of Patna the only problem we have? What happened in America?" he said while referring to recent flash floods, in America which occurred around the Mississippi River.

He said that the government is doing everything it can to provide support to the people affected by the floods in the city. “We are doing everything we can”.

“No one is sitting idle. This is a natural calamity which was magnified by climate change," Kumar told media persons outside the camp.

At least 40 people have died in Bihar.

On Monday, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi and his family were bailed out by National and State Disaster Response Forces (NDRF) as they were stranded after flood-water burst into their house.

Heavy rains and discharge of water through sump houses has caused water levels in the Ganges and its tributary Punpun to rise above the danger mark, though so far there have been no reports of the sump houses encountering problem of reverse flow.

The state government drew flak for poor drainage system in the capital from allies and adversaries alike.
