Gaurishankar Dutt, the MLA from Nadia district's Tehatta assembly constituency, succumbed to Covid at the age of 70 on Wednesday evening.
He was recently admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata after being tested Covid positive.
He was a member of the All India Trinamool Congress since 1998.
In March 2021, he along with Bachchu Hansda had parted ways with TMC and shifted to Bharatiya Janata Party after being denied a ticket for the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election.
Gauri Shankar was the president of Nadia district Trinamool for 7 years. Although he was an MLA from Tehatta in 2016, this time the Trinamool did not nominate him. Instead, MLA Tapash Saha was brought from the adjoining assembly constituency of Palashipara to the Tehatta constituency. After that, he decided to change parties.
However, the BJP did not give him a ticket, so he remained in TMC.
West Bengal elections is in the last leg as voting is underway for the 8th Phase. The result of West Bengal election along with 3 other states and one Union Territory will be declared on May 2nd.
