New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing them of spreading false information about incidents in Sandeshkhali. CM also asserted West Bengal as the safest place in the country for women. CM Banerjee on Thursday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for lecturing her government on women's security. She also alleged that PM Modi remains silent when women are subjected to torture in BJP-ruled states, further escalating the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling TMC and the BJP in West Bengal.
In an apparent reference to former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay, who joined the BJP earlier in the day, CM Banerjee vowed to ensure his defeat regardless of where he contests in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Speaking at a rally in Kolkata , she said, “Many have given fake sandesh (message) on Sandeshkhali. The way a few incidents were shown is reprehensible. Some incidents may have happened and they have not reached us. But when we get to know something, we take action. I don’t hesitate to arrest TMC workers if they are at fault.Without naming the prime minister", the TMC supremo said, as per PTI.
“Yesterday you came here and lectured us that atrocities on women are being committed here. In Uttar Pradesh, gruesome rapes are taking place. The BJP should be shameful that our daughters were raped and burnt in Manipur", CM Mamata added.
CM Banerjee's comments come amidst escalating tensions between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP, with both parties intensifying their rhetoric ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
BJP leaders spreading false Information About Safety Of Women In Bengal, Says CM Mamata
Mamata Banerjee accused BJP leaders of spreading false information about the safety of women in West Bengal while maintaining silence on incidents of torture in BJP-ruled states. She criticised former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay for his judgments, alleging that they resulted in the loss of jobs for thousands of youths across the state.
She vowed to ensure Gangopadhyay's defeat, asserting that all his judgments are now under scrutiny. She claimed that the BJP is angered by the TMC's refusal to allow divisive politics in Bengal, referring to the BJP as "Pinto babu", reported PTI.
CM Banerjee questioned the BJP's priorities, noting that they sent over 400 teams to Bengal but none to Manipur, where women were assaulted and stripped. These remarks reflect the escalating tensions between the TMC and the BJP in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha polls.

Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, West Bengal Chief Minister took charge by leading a rally in Kolkata focused on women's rights. The rally, titled 'Mahila Der Adhikaar, Aamader Angikaar' (women's rights are our commitment), was organised by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on the eve of International Women's Day. Donning her signature white and blue bordered cotton sari, accessorized with a shawl around her neck, Banerjee warmly greeted the crowd lining both sides of the road with folded hands.
Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress supremo, engaged with the crowd as she led the rally from College Street to Dorina Crossing, covering a distance of approximately two kilometers in central Kolkata. Alongside her, TMC's national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, also participated in the event. In a significant turn of events, BJP's Ranaghat Dakshin MLA, Mukut Mani Adhikari, expressed his discontent with his party's decision to repeat its sitting MP from Ranaghat, Jagganath Sarkar, prompting him to switch allegiance to the TMC and join the rally.
Adhikari cited the TMC as the platform where he believed he could effectively serve the masses. Notably, since the 2021 assembly polls, seven BJP MLAs have defected to the TMC, although they are yet to formally resign from their positions as MLAs.
