Kolkata: Political violence erupted hours after poll results were announced on Sunday. The Union home ministry on Monday sought a detailed report of the political violence as reports of at least 11 dead have come in since Sunday evening.
The Trinamool Congress came into power for a third term after results of the Assembly Polls were announced.
In the post election violence, BJP has reported at least 6 deaths, TMC has reported 4 deaths whereas the Indian Secular Front (ISF) which partnered with Congress & the Left said it lost one of its party worker in North 24 Parganas, these figures aren't the official numbers. BJP also alleged that "TMC goons" their offices in the state including the one that was set on fire in Nandigram on Sunday. TMC rubbished the claim The TMC rejected the allegation and said that one of its workers was killed in Burdwan.
According to a PTI report, at least four people were allegedly killed in clashes between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman district on Monday. Quoting official sources as saying that the violence took place a day after the TMC swept the West Bengal Assembly polls winning 213 seats to secure a third term in office.
On Monday, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted saying that he had discussed the matter of post-poll violence with CM Mamata Banerjee and that he has sought reports from the Kolkata police commissioner, the West Bengal director general of police and the state home department.
Meanwhile, the BJP has announced to hold a nationwide dharna on May 5 against the widespread violence unleashed by the TMC workers post the results of the elections. The BJP further said national party chief J.P. Nadda will be visiting West Bengal on May 4 and 5 “in view of the widespread post results retributive violence unleashed on BJP workers and supporters”.
On Monday, the TMC supremo appealed for peace in the state after the accusation of murder started coming in, The Telegraph reported.
