According to reports, the Vijayvargia, Roy and other leaders were detained by Police at the starting point of BJP's rally in Tollygunge in south Kolkata. The leaders were taken into custody as they did not have permission to hold the rally, sources close to Police to ABP News.
BJP has been aggressively carrying out pro-CAA rallies across the country reportedly to raise awareness about the Amended Citizenship Law which the Opposition terms as disastrous. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led state government has been one of the prominent voices opposing the contentious law and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC).
While the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief has strongly rejected CAA and even passed a resolution against it in the Assembly, BJP is keen on implementing it in the state and throughout the country.
Recently addressing a rally in Nadia district, Banerjee likened the CAA, NRC and the National Population Register (NPR) to "black magic: and called the BJP a "party of Dushasanas' and "off-spring of Delhi Sultan Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq".
Attacking the BJP for endeavouring to forcibly implement the NRC, CAA and NPR, Banerjee said she was determined to stop it "anyhow". During a public meeting, TMC supremo also said that the NPR, NRC and CAA are like black magic.
