‘Why Sharing Stage With Narada-Tainted Suvendu Adhikari’: TMC Hits Back At PM Modi Over Corruption Remarks

The TMC hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that they lack credibility due to his association with Suvendu Adhikari, an accused in the Narada case.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over remarks alleging corruption in West Bengal saying that they lack credibility due to his association with Suvendu Adhikari, an accused in the Narada case. Senior TMC leader Shashi Panja, also the state's Women and Child Development Minister, accused the PM of selective visits to West Bengal, primarily timed around elections.

"May we ask why he shared the stage with Narada-tainted BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari?" Panja questioned, highlighting the apparent contradiction in the PM's stance. Panja told PTI-Video.

Panja further targeted the BJP-led central government, accusing it of withholding funds for crucial schemes like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). She alleged that the PM's rally in Krishnanagar featured "false facts," particularly regarding the denial of MNREGA wages to West Bengal beneficiaries, as reported by PTI.

"PM Narendra Modi addressed the rally in Krishnanagar with some false facts, which are unfortunate. You have deprived lakhs of beneficiaries of West Bengal of MNREGA wages, and that is the truth," Panja asserted, as per PTI-Video.

Panja alleged discriminatory practices in fund allocation, comparing West Bengal's situation to that of Uttar Pradesh (UP), a state governed by the BJP. She claimed that while UP, allegedly with a higher number of fake job card holders, received funds, West Bengal faced deprivation for two years.

"This is because UP has a BJP government there. But in West Bengal, they deprived beneficiaries for the last two years," Panja stated, suggesting a political bias in fund distribution.

Speaking to news agency ANI, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh remarked, "PM Modi is commenting on the schemes of Bengal as a BJP worker and not as a PM. His (BJP) government has given credit to the Bengal government. But here, due to the politics, they are maligning Bengal's image. This is cheap politics. This is not right."

PM Modi's Criticism of TMC 

Prime Minister Modi, during his Krishnanagar rally, attacked the Mamata Banerjee-led government, accusing it of fostering oppression, dynasty politics, and betrayal. He alleged that the TMC had mastered the art of transforming schemes into scams, symbolizing it as 'Tu, Main, aur Corruption' (you, me, and corruption).

"The TMC has achieved a mastery in turning schemes into scams," Modi declared, targetting the ruling party.
