New Delhi: According to civic poll results, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) won in four municipalities, while the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) retained control in three in the northern hills.


Mamata Banerjee’s TMC has won 18 out of 21 wards in Domkal Municipality under Murshidabad district while Congress has won 1 and CPI (M) 2.

The Trinamool Congress has made inroads in the hills winning municipal elections in Mirik, Raiganj, Domkal and Pujali.

TMC also opened its account in Darjeeling and is likely to bother the GJM. CM Mamata Banerjee had taken keen interest in the hilly region and used to often Darjeeling ahead of polls.

The civic polls had witness violence which included booth-capturing.  Opposition parties had demanded cancellation of the elections.

BJP had alleged that Trinamool Congress workers were actively involved in the violence and booth-capturing.


Polling was nearly 68 per cent.
