Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Saturday said the southwest monsoon has advanced over most parts of Konkan including Mumbai. The system is likely to give moderate amounts of rain in the city and its adjoining areas. "Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and moderate to intense spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Mumbai during next 3-4 hours," IMD Mumbai said.

Earlier, the IMD tweeted, “Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, most parts of Konkan (including Mumbai), some parts of Madhya Maharashtra, some more parts of Karnataka today, the 11th June 2022.”

In a tweet thread, it further said, “Conditions are favorable for further advance of monsoon into some parts of north Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Konkan, some parts of Gujarat state, most parts of Madhya Maharashtra, entire Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, some parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh.”

The IMD also talked about the Westcentral and north-west Bay of Bengal monsoon conditions saying, “Conditions would continue to become favorable for further advance of monsoon into some more parts of north Arabian Sea, Gujarat state, some parts of Marathwada, some more parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh.”

Meanwhile, the IMD also predicted the monsoon's arrival in the northeast. The IMD forecast the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim, and Meghalaya over the next few days till June 14.

The arrival of the monsoon is expected to provide relief from heat waves that have been sweltering parts of the country for the past two months.
