Weather Update: Heavy rains lashed parts of Maharashtra's capital city, Mumbai, early Thursday morning. Waterlogging was witnessed in several areas following the heavy downpour.


Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alert warnings in several states, including Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Goa, indicating heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the region.


The residents in Mumbai complained that low-lying areas like Gandhi Market, Dadar, Hindmata, Parel, Andheri Subway, and Sion were waterlogged, due to which traffic slowed down.


However, a spokesperson of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said there was no report of waterlogging, as reported by news agency PTI.


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rain in Mumbai. According to an official, there will be a high tide of 3.78 metres in the Arabian Sea at 10.03 am and another one of 3.23 metres at 9.35 pm.






After a light shower over the last two-three days, the intensity of rain picked up since Wednesday evening, with more showers in the island city compared to suburbs. In the 24-hour period ending at 8 am, Mumbai recorded an average of 83 mm of rainfall, with eastern parts receiving 45 mm and western areas receiving 39 mm of downpour, the civic official said.






The weather office, in its forecast for 24 hours from 8 am on Thursday, said, "Moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs. Possibility of very heavy rain in isolated places."


Light Rain Likely In Delhi


On Thursday, the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 29.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department. The weather department has predicted a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain.


The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 36 degrees Celsius. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the satisfactory category with a reading of 92 at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.


An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.


Red Alert


The IMD has issued a red alert for Thursday in several states including Karnataka and Gujarat predicting extremely heavy rainfall. "Isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over South Interior Karnataka, Saurashtra & Kutch on 18th; Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka on 18th July," the weather office said in its bulletin.


Orange Alert


The weather office has also issued an orange alert in Maharashtra's Vidarbha, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region over the next three days. A similar warning has been issued in Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra & Kutch, and Coastal & South Interior Karnataka for the next 5 days.
