Weather Update: Rain is anticipated in numerous regions of India during the next several days. Light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorm with lightning, gusty winds, and hailstorm are expected over northwest India until May 2, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On April 30 and May 1, central and eastern India saw mild to moderate rainfall/thunderstorm with lightning, strong gusts, and hailstorm. Meanwhile, the IMD reported isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and south interior Karnataka until May 2, according to the press release issued by the weather department.


From the night of May 1, an active Western Disturbance is expected to affect northwest India. 






"Light/moderate scattered/widespread rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over Western Himalayan Region and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/ gusty winds over the plains of Northwest India during next 5 days," the MeT Department stated in the press statement.






Hailstorm activity is expected in scattered locations across Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh till May 2, in Uttarakhand during the next five days, in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on May 1 and 2, and in Rajasthan on April 30 and May 3. Thunderstorms are forecast in Uttarakhand on May 2 and 3. Heavy rain is expected in isolated areas across the Jammu division on Tuesday, and in Himachal Pradesh on May 1 and 2. Between May 3 and 4, a duststorm is very likely in isolated areas of West Rajasthan.






"School timings in Patna will be changed from May 1 for all government and private schools. In view of the weather conditions, instructions were given to run the class till 10:30 AM, which will now run till 11:30 AM," Patna DM was quoted by ANI on its official Twitter handle. 






Over the next five days, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) is expected over central India. On Sunday, hailstorms are expected in isolated areas of West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. On April 30, heavy rain is expected in isolated areas of East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh.


Similar meteorological conditions are expected to continue throughout south India in the coming days. "Very Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Kerala 30th April; over Rayalaseema & Tamil Nadu 01st May. Heavy rainfall likely at isolated places Rayalaseema and North Interior Karnataka on 30th April; over South Interior Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during 30th April-2nd May; over Kerala & Tamil Nadu during next 4 days," the MeT Department said. 


Meanwhile, over east India, light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is very likely over the next five days. On Sunday, scattered hailstorms are likely in Odisha and Bihar, as well as in Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim on April 30 and May 1. Heavy rain is expected in isolated locations over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till May 2, and in Odisha on April 30.


Rainfall is also forecast for northeast India. "Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 01st-02st May; Assam & Meghalaya during 01st-04th May," the IMD stated. 


Over the next five days, isolated light rain with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over west India. On Sunday, scattered hailstorms are forecast across Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada.


During the next five days, maximum temperatures are very likely to be below normal to near normal. There will be no heatwave conditions across any portion of India in the coming days.
