The India Meteorological Department has predicted light rain in the national capital on Thursday. According to the weather office, the sky is expected to remain mostly cloudy over the next few days in Delhi. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 34 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is expected to remain around 26 degrees Celsius.






Earlier on Tuesday, the water level of the Yamuna crossed the warning mark of 204.50 metres in Delhi following torrential rain in the river's upper catchment areas over the past two days. According to the Central Water Commission's website, the water level at the Old Railway Bridge rose from 203.48 metres at 3 pm on Monday to 204.94 metres at 6 pm on Tuesday.


The flow rate at the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana's Yamunanagar district stood at 30,153 cusecs -- considered moderate during the monsoon season. An official of the Delhi government's irrigation and flood control department said low-level flooding may occur at a few places along the river but a grave situation is unlikely.


The weather office has predicted heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand over the next few days. In Himachal Pradesh, light to moderate rain is likely over the next few days. Thunderstorm and lightning is likely at isolated places in the hill state.


Meanwhile, in Punjab, parts of Gurdaspur were inundated after heavy rainfall in the area, as reported by the news agency ANI. The death toll in rain-battered Himachal Pradesh rose to 71 on Wednesday with more bodies being recovered, as Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu termed rebuilding the damaged infrastructure a "mountain-like challenge," as reported by PTI.


"At least 71 people have died in the past three days and 13 are still missing. A total of 57 bodies have been recovered since Sunday night," Principal Secretary (Revenue) Onkar Chand Sharma said. Heavy rains have lashed the hill state since Sunday, triggering landslides in several districts including Shimla where three areas -- Summer Hill, Fagli and Krishna Nagar -- are badly hit by landslips.


Speaking on the flood-like situation in the Gurdaspur area, Ashwini Gotyal, SSP, Batala, said, "Due to the release of water from the Pong dam, large parts of Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur have been inundated...Till now we have rescued almost 75 people to a safer place," as quoted by ANI.






In Odisha, IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 17 and 18. People have been asked to avoid areas that are prone to waterlogging.
