Wayanad Bypoll Election Date 2024: The Election Commission of India has announced bypolls for two Lok Sabha seats, including the prestigious Wayanad constituency in Kerala. This election holds significant weight for the Congress Party, as Wayanad has been a stronghold of the party, previously represented by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The polling for the seat is set to take place on November 13, 2024
The bypoll was necessitated after Rahul Gandhi, who won from both Wayanad and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh in the 2024 general elections, decided to vacate the Wayanad seat to retain Rae Bareli. In a strategic move, the Congress Party has fielded Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi's sister and prominent Congress leader, as their candidate for the upcoming bypoll in Wayanad.
The result for the consistuency is set to be announced on November 23 after the counting of votes.
Earlier, Priyanka expressed confidence in representing Wayanad, assuring that she would work to ensure the people don't feel Rahul's absence.
The election comes at a critical time for the region, as Wayanad continues to struggle with the aftermath of devastating landslides.
Following the landslide in Wayanad, both Rahul and Priyanka visited the affected areas and relief camps offering comfort to those grieving the loss of their kin.
On Monday, the Kerala Assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning the central government's delay in providing a rehabilitation package for the affected areas of Wayanad.
"We still remain hopeful of receiving assistance from the Centre. It is a serious matter that no Central assistance has been received to date. What kind of neglect is the Centre showing? While assistance was given to other states, Kerala has not been granted even temporary relief," Leader of Opposition, V D Satheesan said, as per a report on PTI.
