New Delhi: Rajasthan minister Parsadi Lal Meena compared senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with Lord Ram for his Bharat Jodo Yatra saying the former is walking more than Lord Ram, reported news agency ANI. Terming Gandhi's campaign as “historic”, Meena said, “Rahul Gandhi's padayatra will be historic. Lord Ram too had gone from Ayodhya to Sri Lanka on foot. Rahul Gandhi is walking even more than that, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir,” quoted by the news agency.

While the Wayanad MP received support from the Rajasthan minister, Congress MP and former Goa Chief Minister Francisco Sardinha said that Gandhi should stop his Bharat Jodo Yatra and focus on poll-bound states, reported news agency PTI.

He claimed that Congress is the "only party" which can defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra is scheduled to cover a distance of 3,570 km in 150 days. It started on September 7 from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and will conclude in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the yatra, has so far covered four states - Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

On Monday, the Congress party concluded polling to elect its new president.

Senior Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge are in fray as the grand old party is set to have a non-Gandhi president in over 24 years.
