New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is in the coastal state for a day-long visit ahead of the Goa Assembly polls due early next year, kicked a football into the crowd in the Congress Workers Convention at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao on Saturday.


“Let’s kick off a new era for Goa!” Gandhi tweeted sharing the video of him kicking the football.

Earlier in the day, the Congress leader arrived at Azad maidan, a martyrs’ monument in the Goa capital, riding on the pillion of a ‘pilot’.


The Congress party’s Goa unit tweeted a video showing the former party chief riding on the pillion of a ‘pilot’, which is a traditional motorcycle taxi in the coastal state.


“Rahul Gandhi takes a ride on a 'pilot' - a traditional motor cycle taxi in Goa,” Goa Congress tweeted and shared the video of Gandhi riding on the pillion of a ‘pilot’.



Earlier, the former Congress president interacted with members of the fishing community in the coastal village of Velsao.


Gandhi also shared on Twitter his interaction with the fishing community and said “their special lives and livelihoods need special attention”.


“Live- My interaction with Goa’s fisherfolk. Their special lives and livelihoods need special attention,” Gandhi tweeted along with the video of his interaction.



“Dear fisherfolk brothers & sisters, our interaction today was a sea of emotions. Together let’s save the spirit, the environment and the culture of Goa. #GoaWithCongress,” he wrote on the micro-blogging platform.



The election to the 40-member Goa Assembly will be held next year.

The Congress emerged as the single largest party in Goa in the 2017 assembly elections winning 17 seats in the 40-member House, but it could not form the government.


The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had won 13 seats, forged an alliance with some independents and regional parties to form the government in the coastal state.
