Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday offered prayers to Ram Lalla at Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, news agency ANI posted a video on Twitter.
PM Modi arrived in the temple town to attend Deepotsav celebrations, which will include the lighting of approximately 18 lakh earthen lamps to celebrate Diwali.
Modi's visit to Ayodhya comes after a "bhoomi pujan" for the construction of a Ram temple on August 5, 2020. The Prime Minister went to the Ram temple and prayed to Ram Lalla immediately after arriving in Ayodhya for the Deepotsav celebrations.
The prime minister was welcomed by governor Anandiben Patel and chief minister Yogi Adityanath in Ayodhya.
In a tweet in Hindi, Adityanath said, "The honorable Prime Minister, respected Shri who is continuously restoring the ancient glory of the values of India's identity and Sanatan faith, from the heart in the 'Grand- Divine Deepotsav-2022' organized in the holy abode of Lord Shri Ram and Mother Janaki, Shri Ayodhya ji. Welcome Greetings!"
The prime minister also inspected the construction work of the temple, ANI reported.
The prime minister will attend a "aarti" on the banks of the River Saryu around 6.30 p.m., which will be followed by the start of the Deepotsav celebrations.

During the Deepotsav, five animated tableaux and 11 Ramlila tableaux showcasing dance forms from various states will also be presented. According to the Prime Minister's Office, Modi will attend a 3D holographic projection mapping show at Ram ki Paidi on the banks of the Saryu, as well as a grand musical laser show.
