New Delhi: The Police in Maharashtra’s Palghar District has obtained the CCTV footage of the ill-fated Mercedes car moments before it crashed claiming the lives of Cyrus Mistry, former Chairman of Tata Sons and his friend, an official said on Monday, reported news agency PTI. The footage shows the car passing through the Dapchari check post in Palghar district at 2:21 pm on Sunday, he said. 


As per the report, the car hit a road divider on a bridge over the Saryu river on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway at around 3 pm killing Mistry and his friend Jahangir Pandole on the spot. 


The police team investigating the crash are examining the CCTV footage for further leads, said the official. 






Another police officer said that the car was being driven at a speed of 180-190 kilometre per hour as the person behind the wheel covered a distance of 20 kilometres in just 9 minutes. 


Mumbai-based gynaecologist Anahita Pandole (55), a family friend of Mistry, was driving the car, the police have said.

She, and her husband, Darius Pandole (60) have been seriously injured in the accident and are currently undergoing treatment in a hospital in Mumbai. 


The probe team will submit a detailed report which will be forwarded to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who has ordered an investigation into the road accident, he said.


Mistry’s funeral will take place today at Worli crematorium in Mumbai at 11am.

“Some family members are arriving in Mumbai by tonight (Monday night). Mistry's body will be taken to Worli crematorium tomorrow and will be cremated at 11 am,” a family member was quoted as saying in a PTI report.


Mistry is survived by his wife Rohiqa, sons Firoz and Zahan, mother Patsy Mistry, sisters Laila Rustom Jehangir and Aloo Noel Tata, and brother Shapoor Mistry.
